Understanding Wildfire Risk Reduction
Wildfire risk reduction focuses on minimizing the threat of forest fires by addressing one of their primary fuel sources: dead and dying vegetation. This includes twigs, branches, and debris on the forest floor. When these materials accumulate, they create a perfect environment for fires to spread quickly and intensely. By removing this fuel, we can help prevent fires from growing out of control.
Here’s how it works:
Removing Fuel: Our efforts involve clearing away the excess twigs, branches, and forest debris. This process ensures that the forest has less material to burn, which helps stop fires from spreading both vertically through trees and horizontally across the landscape.
Creating Fuel Breaks: In our region, we’re focusing on areas close to homes and communities, as well as places with heavy fuel buildup. These treated areas act as "fuel breaks" that can effectively reduce the intensity of any wildfires that might occur.
